Citizen Action AmeriCorps Position

 

About Citizen Action AmeriCorps

Jersey Cares is seeking four qualified individuals to become Citizen Action AmeriCorps Member (CAAC). CAAC provides opportunities for Americans to make an ongoing, intensive commitment to service. The program strives to build communities by creating relationships between community members, and organizations. These constructed social networks increase social capital and build a solid foundation of engaged community networks that effect change both on a short-term and long term basis. 

 

Member Description

Jersey Cares is seeking individuals to serve as Citizen Action AmeriCorps Members in our Community & Corporate Volunteer Programming to increase productivity and meet compelling community needs, including those related to children, hunger, homelessness, seniors, the environment and others.

AmeriCorps Members will be focused by position in the areas of Annual Event Advancement, Volunteer Recruitment, Nonprofit Partnership Development, and Corporate Service Implementation. Additionally, the AmeriCorps members will also work to develop our disaster response programming, a new addition to our program areas in 2008. Members will evaluate ongoing projects; plan and implement new volunteer opportunities; recruit and train project coordinators and volunteers; and locate, plan and execute projects that meet the specific needs of corporate partners and the community.

All members will help to plan and execute two annual events: The Jersey Cares Coat Drive, which is held from October to December, during which more than 30,000 coats are collected, sorted and distributed to people who need them; and Jersey Cares Day, which is a day of community service in Newark that engages more than 1,000 volunteers in much-needed projects at local schools and nonprofits throughout the city.

Term of Service: 09/01/08 – 08/31/09;  Membership requires a full-time commitment.

Requirements: Members must be at least 18 years old. Applicants must have a High School Diploma/GED (Bachelors preferred), reliable transportation, a strong commitment to community service and volunteerism, excellent written and oral communication skills, outstanding organizational skills, and be computer literate. The successful candidate will have the ability to think creatively, get along well with others and handle multiple tasks at the same time.

Benefits: Weekly Living Allowance ($250), $4,725 Educational Award upon successful completion of term of service, Health Care Coverage, childcare assistance if eligible, training in a variety of areas, and phenomenal experience in the service sector.

INTERN POSITION

Overview  

Jersey Cares is seeking a highly energetic person to actively support expansion of our volunteer projects – the core of our mission. This is the perfect position for someone with a commitment to volunteerism and improving the lives of others, a self-starting, get-it-done attitude and a proven ability to organize complex processes. The Volunteer Program Intern will work closely with the Volunteer Program Manager to contact and forge relationships with civic and social groups, student organizations, churches and other groups for the purpose of engaging them in Jersey Cares volunteer projects as well as to identify potential new partner organizations in need of volunteers and evaluate ongoing projects. This position provides real responsibility and terrific experience in nonprofit and volunteer management.  

 

Qualifications

  • A high school degree or equivalent;
  • A strong commitment to community service and volunteerism;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Outstanding organizational skills;
  • A strong work ethic;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs;  and,
  • An ability to think creatively and handle multiple tasks at the same time.

 

Compensation (Per Semester)

  • $20 Travel Allowance Each Week.

  • $250 Stipend (after completion of internship)
