Marketplace in East Brunswick

Volunteers are needed for sorting and distribution of food, assisting neighbors with food choices, indoor set-up and clean-up for the pantry. In addition, volunteers may be assigned to the thrift shop to sort donations, assist in sales and clean-up. Environment is generally fast-paced with some heavy lifting.

Need-To-Know: Effective 11/7/23 Food Pantry and Thrift Shop are located in the lower level of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Park in the church parking lot and walk down the ramp located at the right side of the church. Follow the signs for entrance.

  • Volunteers will receive a brief orientation and assignment to pantry or thrift shop. For pantry, duties may include loading tables with fresh, dry or frozen foods for distribution, assisting neighbors with food choices, retrieving carts from parking lot and general clean-up at end of the day. For thrift shop, duties may include sorting and hanging clothing donations, assisting customers, clean-up.

  • Modest clothing is recommended, no short tops or short shorts. Closed toes shoes are required.

  • Flexibility is a plus since tasks are contingent based on amount of food or donations that will be used during the day. Being flexible is a plus as tasks may change based on necessity.

  • Ability to lift and move potentially heavy boxes (20-40 lbs) of food or thrift shop donations. Additionally, may be helping move boxes, etc. from storage areas.

Waivers: All projects have non-negotiable age restrictions that are noted on the upper right side of each project description. If you meet the age restriction but are under 18, please have a parent or legal guardian complete the required youth waiver and bring with you to the project. Adults attending the project can expedite the registration process by printing the adult waiver in advance, sign and bring with you.
