Donation Sorting in Newark

Volunteers are needed to assist St. James Social Service Corporation in sorting and organizing donations. Some of the tasks can include but are not limited to: receiving, sorting, and organizing clothing donations of all sizes (including youth and adult), breaking down boxes, and assisting staff in placing merchandise on organized displays shelves, This is a great opportunity for children (with adult supervision) and teens to earn volunteer hours and work independently while working together to make a change. 

 

NEED-TO-KNOW:

  • Volunteer tasks can include but are not limited to: sorting through a collection of hangers, clean up/maintenance, organizing shelves and clothes for display, and assisting in the organization of incoming donations. Some heavy lifting may be required.  

  • Volunteers will receive a brief orientation upon arrival.

  • Volunteers should wear clothes they feel comfortable working in.

 

 Volunteer Guidelines: COVID-19

  • Volunteers are asked to wear protective masks throughout the opportunity.  

  • Social distancing guidelines are in place 

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands

  • Clean and wash your hands before, during, and after volunteering for a minimum of 20 seconds. 

  • If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Waivers: All projects have non-negotiable age restrictions that are noted on the upper right side of each project description. If you meet the age restriction but are under 18, please have a parent or legal guardian complete the required youth waiver and bring with you to the project. Adults attending the project can expedite the registration process by printing the adult waiver in advance, sign and bring with you.
