Tutor and Mentor in Newark

The Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) provides a safe haven for youth after school. Specifically for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) youth and their allies. Volunteers are needed to make a difference in the lives of youth and the opportunities to help are limitless!

Have fun and socialize, and help students with their Math and English homework; teach life-, social-, and organizational skills.

Whatever your strengths, you are needed and will contribute to making a profound difference in the students’ lives by giving them the courage and confidence to succeed and become future leaders. Volunteers will focus on homework help. The children are on various educational levels of high school curriculum.

Waivers: All projects have non-negotiable age restrictions that are noted on the upper right side of each project description. If you meet the age restriction but are under 18, please have a parent or legal guardian complete the required youth waiver and bring with you to the project. Adults attending the project can expedite the registration process by printing the adult waiver in advance, sign and bring with you.
