Lincoln School

Total Enrollment: 407 Total Minority Enrollment: 100% Total eligible for free/reduced lunches: 82% Lincoln School, built in 1916, is the oldest Newark Public School, built in the West Ward Vailsburg Section of the city bordering South Orange. The community is largely African-American, African, Haitian and Hispanics. Lincoln School is a Title I school and is part of the Abbott Program. Lincoln school has approximately 404 children from Pre K- to 7. By 2009-2010, Lincoln will be Pre-K to 8. Due to this restructuring of the elementary schools in the area, the school population is expected to increase an additional 100 students. Language diversity is as follows: 93.8% speak English as their first language, 4.4% speak Haitian Creole/French and of the remaining 1.9% speak primarily Spanish. The faculty members at Lincoln School are very diverse and are all considered highly qualified according to No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements. The faculty is committed to planning and implementing a variety of activities that facilitate the preparation of the students for the challenge of mastering the Core Curriculum Content Standards as well as being productive citizens in the community. This is accomplished through developing relationships with community organizations and parental involvement.
