Jersey Cares is committed to closing the opportunity gap in New Jersey. The Youth Workforce Development (YWD) Program is a cross-sector collaborative bridget program that provides a powerful opportunity for youth ages 16-24. It aims to connect youth to positive professional relationships, developing critical 21st-century job and life skills, all while supporting a New Jersey nonprofit organization. These internships help to prepare, educate, and coach youth on some of the key elements of career success.

INTERNSHIP

The Youth Workforce Development Fellowship is designed for low-to-moderate income youth in New Jersey (age 16-24) and aims to address the disconnect between young adults, workforce development skills, and employment opportunities. The YWD Internship creates a unique opportunity for selected candidates to be a focal point of merging efforts from New Jersey's vibrant non-profit sector and business partners.

YWD Interns serve as stewards and ambassadors of Jersey Cares and drive social change by leading well-managed, sustainable projects and programs at various non-profit agencies. Not only does their work strengthen and leverage community assets and meet community-identified needs, but their management is underscored with a series of workforce development training workshops that includes leadership competencies, workability skills and culminates with a “Demonstration Day”, where interns share their YWD Program experiences.

NONPROFIT HOSTING

The program offers a unique opportunity for New Jersey nonprofits looking to build capacity through the work of community driven interns, and well-managed projects that serve their mission.

We enhance the professional development of young people and reduce youth unemployment through two key workforce development programs; the Youth Workforce Development Internship noted below and our Park Ambassador, Summer Youth Employment Program.
