Care of the Park in 🌳 Branch Brook Park

Known nationally as the first county park system open to the public in the United States, local treasure Essex County Branch Brook Park needs you! Volunteers support experienced Branch Brook Park Alliance team members in various projects that change weekly but include one or all options noted below.

  • Prune, groom, rake, cultivate, water, weeding

  • Remove invasive plant species

  • Create and maintain restoration projects

  • Maintain portions of the historic Lenape trail

  • General debris removal

  • Waivers: There are two for each volunteer and in this paragraph are the links to download both. Adults attending the project, please help us expedite the "day-of-registration" process by printing the Jersey Cares Adult Waiver & Essex County Waiver in advance. Then sign and bring it with you. If you meet the age restriction and are under 18, please have a parent or legal guardian complete the required Jersey Cares Youth Waiver & Essex County Waiver and bring them with you to the project. Click the links in this paragraph to download the waiver. The minimum age to volunteer at this site is 12 with an adult and 16 without an adult.

  • Registration cutoff is 48 hours in advance of each occurrence start time. 

  • Teams/Groups, max size is 50 people. Please note you must assign a Team Captain who will keep everyone motivated to achieve the goals set for the day. When creating a team in your "My Account" section please provide real names (this is required, no fictitious names please) when registering. Tutorial on creating a team - watch here.

  • This volunteer opportunity is labor-intensive and on most days during the peak season, it's hot out.

  • Make sure to bring sunscreen and you might want to wear a hat.

  • Bring work gloves, we have a limited supply of previously used and freshly clean work gloves to provide. 

  • Always wear closed-toed shoes.

  • Supply water for yourself and anyone with you.

  • Consider wearing bug repellent

  • We dig-in, get dirty, and recommend wearing clothes you are comfortable getting weathered, tattered, and torn. 

  • This is a rain or shine project. In the case of dangerous weather, the project may be canceled. Please stay aware of incoming messages regarding updates to the occurrence.

  • After you register, you will receive an auto-triggered email with the meeting location for the date you registered. Please register first, as we are unable to accept anonymous guests.
