Marketplace in Jersey City (Old Bergan Church)

Volunteers will support the Old Bergen Church Food Pantry during its delivery and distribution days. Help is needed to serve food and necessities to the community in Jersey City. The food pantry feeds up to 170 families a month, fresh meat and produce.

The food pantry is one of the missions of Old Bergen Church, and is a major part of their stewardship to the community. The OBC Food Pantry is run by the deacons with a few very dedicated volunteers, and has faithfully operated for over 20 years.

NEED-TO-KNOW

  • On Fridays, volunteers will unload the food truck, stock shelves and load refrigerators/freezers. On Saturdays, they will set up the food pantry tables, help distribute food to the people and restock the tables when empty.

  • Volunteers should be sure to wear comfortable clothes and avoid open toed shoes.

  • The activities will be moderately physically active and they can include heavy lifting (around 15 - 35 lb). Volunteers will be moving with heavy boxes as you unload the truck or restock the tables.

  • There is parking available along the fence of the drive way. Please do not park in any of the marked spot in the lot unless directed to do so. These are reserved for residents living in the apartment next door to the Church. The building entrance is on Highland Ave, behind the church, (on the right before you get to the traffic light). Google should get you straight there and volunteers will meet outside next to and/or enter from the white door.

  • Please note: The timing of this opportunity has been determined by Jersey Cares and Old Bergan Church based on the delivery window provided by the food supplier. There is potential the delivery may arrive before or after the opportunity begins resulting in a delayed program start or a shortened volunteer experience. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
