Marketplace in Clifton (Embrace Relief)

Embrace Relief is a nonprofit humanitarian charity that helps to provide resources and support to communities in need around the world, including in the US. The Mobile Farmers’ Market is one of their flagship programs in New Jersey, and has provided more than 30,000 pounds of fresh produce and other nutritious foods to families in Clifton, East Orange, Newark, Englewood, and Paterson since 2021.

The Mobile Farmers Market is a renovated bus that has been fitted with grocery shelves, food bins, and refrigerators to allow us to take quality nutritious food directly to communities that need it. This event is in partnership with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, the Clifton Health Department, and St. Peter’s Haven food pantry.

NEED-TO-KNOW

• ​Volunteers will be working inside the truck, packing tote bags full of produce for guests. They will also be helping guests carry bags to their cars. Some volunteers will be stationed at tables with nonperishable foods and other items inside the school for the guests. Volunteers will meet at the School #12 parking lot/cafeteria.

• ​ Please be sure to wear seasonal/comfortable clothing and avoid wearing open-toed shoes. There will be some light lifting/carrying (typically no more than 25-30 pounds at a time) during setup/takedown, and while running bags to cars.

• ​This is a rain or shine event. In the event of rain, most volunteers will be able to stay inside school or truck for majority of event.

• Volunteers will be handling food and/or engaging with guests, so we ask them to stay home if they have any kind of cold, flu, stomach bug, etc.

• Please note: The tasks for this opportunity have been determined by Embrace Relief based on the food delivered by the food supplier. The workload for each opportunity may be affected by this resulting in a delayed start time or shortened volunteer experience. We thank you for your patience and understanding

Waivers: All projects have non-negotiable age restrictions that are noted on the upper right side of each project description. If you meet the age restriction but are under 18, please have a parent or legal guardian complete the required youth waiver and bring with you to the project. Adults attending the project can expedite the registration process by printing the adult waiver in advance, sign and bring with you.
