Aldersgate Outreach Community Center

Aldersgate Outreach Community Center was started nearly 50 years ago by Aldersgate United Methodist Church in East Brunswick to serve the food insecure community in Middlesex County. It has grown from serving a few clients monthly to over 100 families per week. In addition to the food pantry, a thrift shop on the same property was established to fund the pantry and other programs such as our school backpacks, Christmas gifts and toys, Thanksgiving and Easter holiday foods and children’s snack bags. In addition to funding from the thrift shop, we apply for grants and partner with outside groups and organizations to run food drives. With the growth of the pantry and thrift shop, a separate operating Board was established which now includes a collaboration of members from other churches and synagogues in the East Brunswick community. In addition, the pantry is an agency of the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and a partner with Replenish, the Middlesex County Food Bank. We also participate in TEFAP (The Federal Emergency Assistance Program) and SFPP (New Jersey State Food Purchase Program) which provides additional food to the pantry. Families who use the pantry complete an application and provide documentation to qualify for assistance. We do not require any citizenship information. In addition to food, we now participate in programs which provide child and adult diapers and period products.
